04052013 Fierce New Flavor

———–

A month or so ago I was feeling queasy, and my wife brought home some Gatorade in case I started throwing up all over the place. Thankfully, I didn’t throw up, but I drank the Gatorade anyway. It claimed to be “Fierce Grape” flavored, but it tasted like regular old docile grape to me. This has been a trend in food marketing for years now, usually with snack food. If it isn’t “fierce” or “extreme” or “flavor blasted,” it clearly isn’t worth eating. But the only truly fierce food is tiger meat, and the only extreme food is trans-dimensional shrimp scampi, and the only way to really get something blasted with flavor is by blowing it up with explosive cheese. You won’t find these flavors in the grocery store, and certainly not in juice or chips or little fish-shaped crackers.

I don’t know why, but for some reason I’ve been drawing a lot of comics recently with people getting beat up.

Andrew Kaye (known in some circles as AK) is the creator of Ben & Winslow and other questionable comics, many of which can be found in his deviantART gallery. He’s also the editor-in-chief of this magazine. Duh?
