“The Traveler,” by Ethan Kwak

two roads diverged
yet both lead
to the future
I sat between the two
among piles
of yellow leaves
and waited for
the city to infiltrate
the country
centuries later
I got up and walked
to the nearest
fast-food diner
where the redwoods
once stood
on the way
I spotted the windy
less-worn path
remembering legends
of grandiose adventures
of heroic warriors
of quests of glory
I walked past
and ordered a
cheeseburger
