Darling Blood Oranges

By Kristine Ong Muslim

The orange sun orbs
of fresh blood oranges
are despicable.

They are sweet as the
office boss's favorite tart,
mindless as a pair

of perfect ass with
no body attached.
They fill the fruit bowls

with an annoying sheen,
like the blank faces
of drunk husbands

home to their wives
dreaming day after day
of spinsterhood.

And in death, all blood
oranges retaliate as their
rinds clog the drain.
