“Four Suburban Churros” and “City Kill And The Headdress”

By Alveraz Ricardez

Four Suburban Churros

fam-packed rusted volvo under patriot sun
the kids; rubber banded jumping beans
the wife drives like a thawing chihuahua

my eyes roll back; a slow cooked, wet steak
wait to cut a deal with the bad breath of traffic

I'm rare right now, a nice taste
sure to be well-done by san diego,
and jerky by tijuana

City Kill And The Headdress

wet bark and oak leaves stick
to my crotch after a campfire
fuck with the wife

in our tent we suck beer farts
and tickle our nipples
for levity

the moon, a god damn liar
slips in whitmans mud
before my eyes can adjust

one smoke and a final
dance with the indians before
temporary death

later I would lose my wedding
ring in the river and hate that
trip forever

Return to the Current Issue Alveraz Ricardez wrote these poems while traveling around the world via hot-air balloon. These two poems in particular were traded to us for a roll of toilet paper and several bags of Doritos.
