Oh, Sascha Grant!

We here at Defenestration are, by no means, perfect. While many of us working diligently in the Defenestration offices are only human, many more are robots, monkeys, plant-life, and so on. We’re prone to mistakes.

That being said, in our January issue of this year, we published a photograph taken by Sascha Grant of Australia, and to accompany that photo, Luigi Fairbanks wrote up a nice little article. Unfortunately, we made a mistake. Right from the start, we assumed Sascha was a girl. A woman. A female. Oh, how wrong we were….

The other day, Andrew got the following e-mail in his in-box:

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for posting my image and such a humorous article recently :) The one with the grotesque face of 'Luna Park'! One thing I thought, now it's been and gone, is the issue of my gender.

Gender, as it goes, is a funny thing.  Names, too, are funny things as well and at certain times, names are associated with genders...

My name, Sascha, as you mentioned in the article was associated with the 'SHE' and 'HER' but unfortunately, it should perhaps more correctly read 'HE' and 'HIM'

Now, I actually found the article even more funny because of this; my friends, too, got a good hearty chuckle out of it as well!!  I've lived the past 30 or so years with this HE/SHE confusion so I am in no way offended.  If I was, I would have emailed as soon as I saw it online.

I only email now, as I thought you might all get a laugh out of it too!

As you can plainly see, Sascha Grant is NOT a woman. He’s not even human. He’s some sort of bizarre creature, half man, and half latex medical glove.
