I remember when I was a little kid back in the 80s and early 90s, a restaurant (I can’t remember if it was a local place or a chain) started selling gryos. Nowadays you can find gyros all over the place, but back then they weren’t as common. This restaurant really, really wanted people to use the proper Greek pronunciation, and even had a series of commercials advertising “yeeros.” But it didn’t work, because I don’t know any American that calls them that. English is a very accommodating language, but English speakers always end up pronouncing foreign words however the heck they want, especially if that word isn’t pronounced even remotely like the way it’s spelled.

Technically, this comic depicts what gyros should REALLY be like…

Andrew Kaye (known in some circles as AK) is the creator of Ben & Winslow and other questionable comics, many of which can be found in his deviantART gallery and his Tumblr. He’s also the editor-in-chief of this magazine. Duh.
