“Debating the Draft,” by Maria Bonsanti

Apr 20th, 2016 | By | Category: Poetry

I have this need
to sometimes rhyme
my words, my phrases
….give them time

to forge an image
more concrete,
’cause more recalled
dressed in a beat;

with strum of lyrics
in the lines,
’cause if unmetered
lose some shine.

Diversify
or versify …
an endless battle
waged on high

with thoughts of muses
clashing sound,
’cause when at odds
they slam to ground

– the thoughts, not muses –
pen-impaled,
’cause if a rhyme wins
….print derailed.
