———–

Have any of you ever lost heating to your home while it was really, really cold outside? Like your electricity goes out for a prolonged period of time, or your heater breaks? Isn’t that the absolute worst? It’s happened to me several times, and it makes me realize 1.) how awesome it would be to have a fireplace and 2.) how lucky I am to have heat most of the time. I can’t imagine being cold every day. Since I have small children, sitting around the house under makeshift shelters of blankets and pillows while wearing fifteen layers of clothes isn’t really an option, and we’ve always had to relocate until the problem was solved.

One of my pet peevs is the pairing of polar bears with penguins. It happens all the time, in every medium. You can’t call it an honest mistake anymore, because five seconds of Internet research would tell you that polar bears live in the arctic and penguins live in the antarctic. Of course, I’ve drawn a strip making fun of this with a polar bear whose claws are way bigger than they’re supposed to be, and not necessarily in the right quantity, but that isn’t laziness, it’s the natural exaggeration of cartooning. So there.

Andrew Kaye (known in some circles as AK) is the creator of Ben & Winslow and other questionable comics, many of which can be found in his deviantART gallery. He’s also the editor-in-chief of this magazine. Duh?
